Greetings Brothers and Candidates,
After much discussion and deliberation among our District Leadership along with our Regional Vice President, a decision has been made to postpone the Spring IMDP process until Fall 2020. With the increasing cases of the coronavirus/COVID-19, it is in the best interest of the Fraternity, brothers, and those seeking membership, to delay any Clusters that have not yet started.
I realize that some of the Spring 2020 certified candidates may have some scheduling challenges in the Fall given scholastic and athletic commitments – while a few are even scheduled to graduate. Regardless of the case, I have challenged the Chief Deans and IMDP Management Teams to look at ways to be as accommodating as possible.
If there are certified candidates who do not wish to move forward in the Fall, please have them notify me in writing of their desire not to, so that a ‘full refund’ can be requested. Again, I need to have these names and their statements as soon as possible.
For those who desire to have their applications rolled over to the Fall, the following will exist:
All applications will remain “approved”; however, a new background check will be needed along with an updated transcript.
Any graduating senior application will remain in the “approved” status; however, the candidate will have to be sponsored by an alumni chapter.
Over the next few months, the Chief Deans and IMDP Management Teams will be examining ways in which IMDP can be conducted if there are still remnants of the coronavirus/COVID-19 this Fall.
Lastly, as you have witnessed over the past few weeks, coronavirus/COVID-19 has caused a critical change in the way we operate. That said, Alpha Phi Alpha and its membership are not exempt from the trauma either. It has caused us to pause, ponder and peruse our practices and processes so that we can remain safe and healthy. Let us continue to care for each other, especially our senior brothers who are even more impacted by this pandemic.
Keep the Faith! We will get through this!
Brother Don R. Weston
South Carolina District Director
