SCAlpha releases Registration Packet for 2023 LDCEI effort
Registration Deadline extended to June 5th
SCAlpha's first District Leadership Development Institute will be held on June 14th - 18th at Morris College in Sumter, SC
Sumter, South Carolina: In alignment with the new Regional strategy, the South Carolina District of Alpha Chapter is holding its first LDCEI (Leadership Development Citizenship Education Institution) event since the 1980s. The Leadership Development Institute will be held at Morris College in Sumter, Carolina, from June 14-18, 2023, and is hosted by Omicron Kappa Lambda Chapter (Sumter, SC) and Xi Epsilon Chapter (Morris College) with Bro. Jeffery Hughes as Institute Chairman.
LDCEI was started in the District of South Carolina at Benedict College under the direction of 26th General President Bro. Henry Ponder, who was then president of the Benedict College in Columbia, SC. Over the years, the effort was raised to the Regional level with Institutes held throughout the seven states in the Southern Region of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Since the pandemic, AlphaSouth suspended LDCEI activities, and there has been an effort to re-envision the effort and address the need to increase local opportunities for youth and reduce the travel time for some coming from other states.
Now, LDCEI events will be held in each District [State], allowing youth from within the state access to an institution in a more centralized location with shorter travel times. South Carolina has chosen to locate our 2023 institute at Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina.
Youth who are interested in applying to attend can submit a registration packet by June 5, 2023 (extended).
Who is eligible to attend:
Any High School (rising 9th – 2023 high school graduate) students who have demonstrated academic promise and leadership potential, and who are from any of the public / private schools within the South Carolina District of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.
Conference Cost:
$100 / per Student. | $100 / per Chaperone
